I am wondering if there are any free/open/crowd sourced AI training efforts? My thought process is: for years folks have banded together for mining cryptocurrencies— but is there anything similar for open/free AI models? Personally, I’d be happy to donate some power, and machine time, but I really don’t know where to look or start. My efforts to search for something came up with nothing, but that could be due to not knowing the right terms.
I think it would be great to have public models, not wholly owned by the biggest companies in the world. The capital requirements currently make it prohibitively expensive for any smaller players to generally compete, but if a sufficiently large amount of them banded together perhaps we could?
